A few things about us…

I Don’t Have My ST*FF Together. Can i still come?

Everyone from all walks of life is welcome here, regardless of where you are in your spiritual journey, regardless of what you believe. When you come on Saturday nights, you’ll see business executives and folk between jobs, a young professional and a young adult in treatment. We’re cool if you’ve been in the back of a cop car or you drive a cop car. Whether you’re part of a family, struggling to raise teenagers or just out of a tough relationship—we’ve got a seat for you.

We believe a different kind of community forms when we set aside what can easily separate us, things like being Republican, Democrat, a Texan or die-hard Cowboy fan, two days sober or never touched a drink, documented or undocumented, introverted or never met a stranger, worn out or energized. We are a part of the United Methodist tradition which means we believe the grace of God is available to all, offers forgiveness and calls us to a life of justice and mercy.

What’s The Worship Service Like?

Saturday night at Mercy Street is filled with live music, authentic faith journeys and practical sermons set in a casual, come as you are environment. We extend the gift of Christian community to everyone, no matter your back ground with church. We are a safe harbor of hope and transformation!

More specifically: We start the service right at 5:30PM so come a little early to hang out, enjoy homemade cookies and coffee, and grab a seat before 5:30PM.

We’re paper free, so there's no bulletin. Here’s what you can expect: homemade cookies and coffee, sing a few songs, prayer and open-mic celebrations for what God is doing in our city. Then we read from the Bible, usually some fascinating story of the unholy, uncertain yet hope-filled people guided by a God known for radical grace and love. Our pastor gives a 25 minute sermon. The first Saturday of the month we celebrate Holy Communion—all are welcome to the table for bread and juice. We also gather in the coffee shop right after church for “coffee and conversation.” The second Saturday of the month we go to dinner at Buffalo Grille (Voss & Woodway) after the service. We celebrate baptism on the third Saturday of every month.

What About My Kids?

We love kids and have a special program designed just for them. When you arrive, come by our MS Kidz Table to meet the volunteers. Children Pre-K - 5th grade stay with their parents in the main service during the music and are released to the kids program where they explore the Bible with kid-friendly lessons. Nursery care is offered starting at 5pm for children ages 6 months to 3 1/2 years. Our leaders love kids and we value the privilege of teaching and encouraging them.

We also have a strong youth program. Teenagers worship with their parents in the main service and then head to the game room after announcements for a lesson in faith and the Bible followed by socializing and playing games and dinner. Mercy Street Students is a great place for students to make lifelong friends and start to learn more about their own faith.

Where Is It?

NOTE: It’s a fancy zip code with a laid-back atmosphere. We’re located in the Fellowship Hall of Chapelwood United Methodist Church at 11140 Greenbay, Houston, TX 77024. If you arrive off Greenbay, just drive to the back church parking lot and you’ll see the Mercy Street banner over the middle entrance (Entrance #7 / Parking Lot B). Once inside the church look for signs for the Fellowship Hall. If you take the bus, catch #70 from the Northwest Transit Center to Memorial & Greenbay. It’s a 7 minute walk from there.

What Should I Wear?

Whatever you want. People here dress casually; you don’t need to cover-up tattoos and you can wear your Jimmy Choo’s or Chuck Taylors if that’s your thing.
