Introduction to "Search for Silence" by Elizabeth O'Connor
This study is intended to help us reach the place where Renewal can happen. The place of stillness deep within ourselves that is our home, where we can hear God's voice and be immersed in God's presence. We will practice exercises each week that will take us step by step into that place of silence.

Encountering God Through Art - July 17
Thursday, July 17th 5:30pm-8:00pm
Let's go to The Museum of Fine Arts, Houston to learn the practice of Visio divina on July 17th. Visio divina invites the viewer into "divine seeing." Visio divina shares roots with the ancient practice of lectio divina. (Lectio divina calls for a slow, careful interaction with scripture through meditation and prayer, allowing a word or phrase to rise in one's consciousness, a holy word to be savored and examined.) Similarly, visio divina invites one to encounter the divine through images. A prayerful consideration of and interaction with different mediums of art allows the viewer to experience the divine in a unique and powerful way.
Interested in attending? Email Pastor Maggie to let her know you can make it!

Jam Session
Can you sing? Play an instrument? Clap to the beat? Come to the Jam Session! We'll meet up, play through some good music, then talk about that music and how it applies to our lives. Snacks and chord charts provided.
Regardless of your skill level, if you want to make music in a supportive environment, come on out. We'll have a few stronger musicians to keep us on track, and the music will be tunes you probably know - a mix of popular music, folk songs, and hymn tunes. Look at the QR code for what songs we're thinking of.
If you would like to practice ahead of time (you don't have to!) get the JustChords app. It's free and will let you look up charts for songs and transpose them as needed for your instrument.
Location: East Room, Chapelwood UMC
Date: July 11th
Time: 6:30-8pm

Women's Book Study
I Want to Trust You, but I Don’t: Moving Forward When You’re Skeptical of Others, Afraid of What God Will Allow, and Doubtful of Your Own Discernment.
Lysa TerKeurst (author) shows you what to do with your skepticism and distrust so you can heal from past betrayals and move forward with strength and resilience. Trust is the oxygen of all human relationships. But it's also what trips you up after you've been burned. Maybe a friend constantly lets you down. A leader or organization you respect turns out to be different than they portray themselves to be. A spouse cheats on you. A family member betrays you. You're exhausted by other people's choices and starting to question your own discernment. And you're wondering, If God let this happen, can he even be trusted?
How can you live well and step into the future when you keep stumbling over trust issues?
